Education & Prevention

As a practice, we are true believers that preventative care and education are the keys to optimal dental health.  You will be instructed by a member of our Clinical team at your banding appointment proper hygiene  technique.  You should be using a soft bristle toothbrush that is in good condition.  Brush at least three times per day. Brush above and below brace using a vibrating motion at a 45 degree angle to get the bristles between the wire and tooth surface.  Remember to take your time.  It should take two minutes to brush your teeth.  Patients are instructed to use a fluoride rinse nightly and to floss daily.  Floss threaders or Super Floss will be helpful to thread the floss under the wire.  Not only are we focused on the beauty of your smile, we’re also concerned about your health.  A review of your medical history can help us stay informed of your overall health, any new medications, and any illnesses that may impact your dental health.  You must keep up your routine cleaning and exams at your General Dentist office twice per year while in orthodontic treatment.

Infection control in our office is also very important to us.  To protect our patients and ourselves, we strictly maintain sterilization and cross contamination processes using standards recommended by the American Dental Association (ADA), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Center for Disease Control (CDC).
